Colder temperatures set to return

The last week has seen temperatures rather higher than we would like to have seen resulting in the freezing level rising to around 2000mts. The raise in temperature can be put down to the Foehn wind. The good news is that we should start to see the temperature, and therefore the freezing level drop tomorrow. The lower slopes around Sauze will hopefully be white again as the freezing point drops to around 1000mts. It is forecast to snow tomorrow and Thursday.

It has been snowing nicley above 2000mts and already there is a lot of snow for this time of year. It would be nice to have a sustained period of colder weather to get a good frost and snow covering on the lower slopes. The drop in temperature will also mean that the snow cannons can start up again.

It is so important to get a good base formed in the next few weeks to ensure we have another cracking season. I’ve included a couple of pictures taken by Martin Gilhooly last week to give you some idea of what’s around at the moment.
