The adventure village provides children and adults alike fun in the trees and why not try out the 400m Tibetan bridge suspended 121m above the ground. There’s local Via Ferrata for those not afraid of heights or simply take a stroll amongst the larch tree forests for a spot of lunch at hidden away refugios.
Sauze d’Oulx is fast becoming a well respected mountain bike location. You’re never too far away from classic climbs anywhere in the Alps and Sauze is certainly no exception. With the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France making regular visits to the area you will not be short on options. Sauze d’Oulx was actually a stage finish in the 1986 Giro d’Italia with Irish man Martin Earley eventually taking the 236km stage win. More recently both grand tours have visited Sestriere, Bardonecchia, Claviere and Oulx. Climbs in the area within easy access of Sauze d’Oulx include the Col du Galibier, Col d’Izoard, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Monte Cenis and the Colle delle Finestre which was the Queens stage of the 2015 and 2018 Giro d’Italia. These are just a selection of some infamous climbs. The whole area though is packed with stunning rides just waiting for you to test yourself.
There are many trials to choose from in the mountains surrounding Sauze d’Oulx covering all levels of experience. Alpine pastures, ancient forests, snow capped mountains and blue skies await you along with the many lakes scattered through the valleys. Each lake will offer something new, sometimes it’s the intensity of its colour with others it’s the wild landscape that reflects in the lakes crystal clear water. An excellent way to get the most out of the experience is to choose the company of an alpine guide who will not only bring an element of safety to the day but help in pointing out places of interest. Guides can be arranged by contacting the tourist office in Sauze.
Meaning iron path, Via Ferrata is essentially a route around the mountain with fixed ladders and Tibetan style bridges. You’re secured by a harness to a cable which in turn is fixed to the rock face. They are common place in the Alps and originally provided a safe way to navigate the mountains. The nearest is located in Claviere, a short drive from Sauze. It’s open every weekend from June – September and everyday between July & August.
The adventure village is a fantastic journey through the tree tops. There are varying degrees of difficulty so all the family can enjoy this exhilarating experience.
You start off with one of the instructors who will take you through the safety aspects explaining how to wear the safety harness and then the adventure begins on a gentle test area in order to assess your confidence. The instructor then follows you as you start to explore life at the top of the trees.
