Mountain biking
Sauze d’Oulx is fast becoming a well respected mountain bike location. Part of the Alpi bike resort, its set in beautiful larch woods and has specially created downhill runs and Freeride zones which add to the natural single track and cross country that’s on offer.
The trails are are all formed to maximise the natural terrain with added man made features to enhance the flow and riders experience. This summer Sauze is extending the number of lifts that will be running, opening up the link to Sestriere. This will create a huge linked area straddling 2 separate valleys.
The lifts are open in Sauze d’Oulx for the first 2 weekends in July and then full time from the 16th July until the 28th August. Open times are 10.00 – 13.00 & 14.00 – 17.00. There will be a shuttle bus servicing the trails from June 2nd. The cost for this service is €32 for the day and on average you’d get 6 runs.
All the trails are natural downhill tracks with added man made features so they could all be classed as Freeride. Cross country riders can take advantage of plenty well thought out loops which can last from an hour to all day.
If you’re up for a challenge then Mount Chaberton will certainly provide it for you. At an elevation of over 10,000 feet there is a track leading to the top where you’ll find an old fort built by the Italians between 1898 and 1910. The views are certainly worth the effort but be warned this isnt for novices!
To save the hassle and incurred expense of carrying your own bike over it’s possible to hire Freeride or Downhill bikes in Sauze d’Oulx from several locations. Clataud Sport are located in the main carpark as you enter Sauze and there is also Faure Sport located in the centre of town just up from the hotel Asseitta.
