Sauze’s ski schools, of which there are 3, offer a high standard of instruction from beginner through to race training. The majority of the instructors speak excellent English so language will not be an issue. They all cater for every discipline be it snow boarding or telemark.

The two main schools that deal with the English are Scuola sci Sauze d’Oulx and Scuola sci Sauze Sportinia. There is a third school, Sauze Project however they tend to deal more with the Italian clients and local ski clubs.

Lessons can be booked in the resort where you can choose to have a group lesson or private lessons. Below is an indication of typical prices.

1hr 1 Person €35
1hr 2 Persons €42
1hr 3 Persons €48
1hr 4 Persons €52

For children and adults there is a six day course which runs from Monday to Saturday and offers 3 hours per day of instruction (2 hours for snowboard classes). The cost for this is €150 or you can save €32 by booking online with us. Follow this link.

Sauze snow report

Snow report

Updates will start again early December 2010.

Date of last snow fall: 09/03/10

Upper slope depth: 160cm

Lower slope depth: 110cm

General conditions: 31/03/10. We’ve been blessed by clear blue skies for the last 5 days which is the first time this winter so its been very welcome. Apart from Sunday 30th the temperature has remained cold so the snow is still in great condition. The clouds are beginning to role in at high altitude which fits in with predictions of the nice weather breaking tomorrow and for more snow over the weekend.  There is a slight possibility of rain below 1300 mts which wont effect the skiing around Sauze.  All links and lifts are open.

Apres ski

Apres ski Sazue d'Oulx

Aside from the great range of skiing opportunities, Sauze d’Oulx possesses everything needed for a great apres ski experience. There’s a wide range of bars, pubs and clubs with many good and inexpensive restaurants and pizzerias.

There is also the opportunity to sample the thrills of an Olympic bob sleigh run in the near by resort of Cesana or how about a meal up the mountain foll0wed by a tourch light descent? For all those who just can’t leave your football for a week then trips can be organised to the Stadio Della Alpi to see Juventus play.

What ever it is your looking for I’m sure you’ll find it Sauze.

Bars & Clubs

MiraSauze d’Oulx is one of Italy’s liveliest resort with numerous bars and restaurants to choose from. If you are looking for cocktails after a hard day on the slope then Moncrons won’t disappoint. Next door to Moncrons you’ll find The Derby bar which has a large open fire and a wide range of local liquor. Popular with the Apres crowd is Bar Mira which keeps the crowds entertained with live sport, happy hours, table football and an automatic massgae room! There’s also wifi for those wishing to get online.   The Cotton Club, being in the centre of town, is a popular choice with the late crowd however if you like your pubs to be Irish then Paddy McGinty’s will be able to pour you a pint of the black stuff and with a real fire and food on offer its popular as you come off the slopes, wifi is also on offer. Further into the old town Il Lampione stays open late and Gran Trun has occasional live music. Another venue for live music is Vagabondi’s which is in the main square and has a mixture of Italian and English music. Most bars stay open late however if you are looking to dance into the small hours of the morning then Sauze has a nightclub that’ll keep you going until the small hours.

Restaurants

Sauze d’Oulx has over 30 restaurants to choose from ranging from traditional pasta houses in the old town to restaurants that will serve you a 10 course gastronomic extravagance. Below are some personal recommendations.

Del FalcoDel Falco was established in 1991 by Vince Hawkins and his wife Annette. They relocated from their original restaurant in 2006 and you can now find them in the old town.

It has a full a la carte menu to choose from or you can opt to have the skiers menu that offers you a three course meal that is gauranteed to recharge the energy levels after a day on the slopes.

g

Lortiche restaurantL’Ortiche is located just before you enter the old town in an area that was previously known as the nettle patch, hence its name. It serves typical Italian dishes alongside such fare as breast of Pheasant stuffed with foie gras. Alternatively if you wanted a pizza then they have an extensive list which I’m currently half way through and therefore can highly recommend.

La GrigliaLa Griglia is the only restaurant in Sauze that has retained its wood burning stove. This is a real feature of the restaurant and the pizza’s that come out of it are second to none. The pizza chef is somewhat of a celebrity in town and I can personally vouch for the quality. They do also offer a full menu of other dishes if you wanted to try something else.pasta

SugoIf you’re a lover of pasta then Sugo’s in the old town the place to head for. They have been established now in Sauze for many years and offering excellent food reasonably priced.
